Week 39

Week 39

Jacob:     Hi everyone! I just wanted to let you know that we had a good Memorial Day this weekend! We saw a whole bunch of gravestones for church leaders and pioneers, including Gordon B. Hinckley. We could've seen Heber J. Grant's stone, but we determined that it was too far and we were already sore from climbing up to the cemetery.
Elder Teichert is good, but he's having a little trouble getting used to life in a two-person apartment such as mine. We didn't get any new assignments, but Elder Salle now works in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building as a newspaper information recorder!
I am excited that Grant Bess may be coming over to the mission, but at the same time I am nervous. I'm not sure how meeting old friends who are missionaries at the same time you are serving a mission works out.
We have had a lot of days of rain this month of May! I think I may have accidentally forgotten my umbrella and coat a couple of times, but nothing too serious!
I think that's about everything for this week!
    Love, Elder J Derricott

By the way, FamilySearch is hosting an event next weekend, so it may affect email time. I'm going to talk with my zone leader so we can do emails during our zone either Thursday or Friday.

Week 38

Jacob:  Hi everyone! It has been pretty good here in SLC! I got a missionary transfer sheet yesterday and Elder Teichert, the missionary I mentioned while I was Elder Bowers' companion, will be my new companion. It will be hard to let go of Elder Salle, but he's got a new job in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in selecting and highlighting areas of old online newspapers. I am glad that you are doing well, and I hope that Emily gets better soon. She will be in my prayers.
For Memorial Day we will have a breakfast together, then we will hike up to the Salt Lake Cemetery (don't worry, I bought sunscreen!) If it rains, however, we will have an "indexing extravaganza" in the Family Search Center. Then after lunch we will watch "Meet the Mormons" in the stake center, an opportunity we would not have otherwise. Well, I hope your Memorial Day plans are great, too.
-Elder Derricott

Tony: We got both, buddy. Happy to see your paragraphs are getting longer. Tell us more about Elder Teichert.
Tara: Hi son! What will you be doing at the cemetary?  Grandma says you have some Livingston and soulsby ancestors buried there. We like your pictures.
Tara: We were up canoeing at lake Como and were out of range... Just got back and got your message. Tell us more about your new companion and dad just asked if you have seen the display that should contain his old mission name tag?

Week 37

May 16,
Jacob:

I am doing very well. My week has also been pretty calm. I am glad that at least we have something to share this week. I got the clothes you sent, and I am glad that you are so quick to respond. Which reminds me; my companion Elder Salle need a USB cord for his camera. It's a Nikon Coolpix, so if you can find something like that would you send one over.
Elder Salle has been moved to other jobs in the Church History Library, and I am glad he is spreading himself around! I found that he accidentally ran into old friends and ward members during the past few months he's been here than I have during the past half-year.
I hope that you are all well and I hope that we can keep sharing what we've done and learned.
    -Elder Derricott

Tara: see. Did all the elders "dress up"?  It looks like a lot of fun! Is that candy in the lei?  What is next big event you have coming up?

Jacob: No. Elder Salle and I only got those candy leis because we were helping out with a performance. Our next event is probably Memorial Day. We plan to have a pancake breakfast and watch some sort of church video.

Tara: I see. A Memorial Day pancake breakfast sounds like fun! Are you going to help cook pancakes? How did the performance at the hail and farewell go? Don't forget to hit reply all so dad can see the conversation.

Jacob: I'm not sure about cooking pancakes. We will have to see when the time gets closer.

Tara: Sorry about the delay... Just got home and putting things away. Anything else to tell us about?

Jacob: It has been raining again today. Sometimes we can't tell when to get our coats and umbrellas or not.

Tara: It's raining here too.  I guess it's better to take them. Then you have them if you need them right?   Well, have a great week and remember that we love you!
